Why cant they just drop nuclear waste into a volcano to destroy it? Would it be a disaster?
you should DEFINITELY watch 'into eternity'. it's a documentary about nuclear waste and it's horrifying but way interesting. they cant put it anywhere tectonically/geologically active cos the stuff lasts for fucking millions of years and it would move around and come up to the surface etc. but they do put it underground - or at least when they have finished building the stores they will - but it has to go miles and miles and miles underground and it is a pretty difficult process! anyway watch the movie it's amazing

I have standard Carbon forks with the Nelson Pista. If I were to swap for more "roadie" than "trackie", what's a good set?
-
• #18832
Why do you want to swap them?
-
• #18833
I was wondering if changing forks would make it better suited for "spirited" riding off the track, i.e. not commuting or pottering about. If there's no real difference I'll just harden the fuck up and get on with it.

repost from the 29er thread...
Can someone clarify something for me.
Given that the sweep is the same and the same stem is being used, a flat bar with a 2cm spacer under the stem will give the same position and handling as a 2cm riser bar with no spacer under the stem?
So if I am looking to keep a frame and fork for many years it may be best to set it up with a flat bar now and possibly change to a riser bar if I become less flexible with age?
Currently trying to decide on how far down to cut a steerer tube. Is 2 cm of spacer above and below the stem too much?

A question about headphones:
I have approx. £100 to spend on a pair of headphones, not earphones, I've been looking at some Bose over or on the ear versions (89.99 and about 129.99 respectively) does anyone have any brands/models they would recommended from experience? I want some that are good at stopping noise leakage so as not to be "that" person on the bus/train/tube.
Cheers for any help!

Noise leakage? both ways?.... tube trains can be dam noisy. Sennheiser HD25-1 II.
With a bit of shopping around you should get them for about a £100-120. Also spares are readily available.

Yeah I meant leakage both ways, if they keep noise in and out fairly well then I can listen to music quieter and annoy less other people and as a bonus preserve my hearing too ha. Thanks, I'll take a look at the Sennheisers.

You may notice that many BBC sports commentators use them, especially in F1. They are also a popular choice with DJ's. They work well in studio recording situations where you don't want the headphone monitor mix leaking onto the recording via the singers microphone.
I have had mine for over 10 years now.

Sold, they sound perfect, at the moment I have a pair of Nixon Nomadic headphones, one year and the cable is already faulty with no easy sign of a replacement (not a matching nixon one anyway and most of the appeal is what they look like so swapping in a generic lead would be a bit rubbish but would obviously perform better..) The nixon ones look pretty but the noise leakage borth ways is ridiculous!

Why can most girls wear patterned tights and nail polish and look normal, however when I try it I look like a hooker?

I got a pair of these recently
http://www.goldring.co.uk/headphones/ns1000.htm
They were £60 of Play.com. I haven't much to compare them to, other than a couple of other sets I listened to. I've been hugely impressed. Good sound definition, noise cancelling, comfortable, comes with a good case and lead. There are also some Audio Tecnicas at around £100 that also get good write-ups. I tended to rely on What Hi-Fi reviews.
If I hadn't wanted noise-cancelling I'd have gone with a pair of Grado SR80.

I haven't seen that particular documentary but 99% of ones fail at the science of nuclear power and nuclear waste. What you've written about it is the equivalent of a Daily Mail story on immigrants.
I studied nuclear power and worked on a live plant for six years. I still have a lot of friends working in various fields connected to that industry. It's one of those frustrating subjects that has me roll my eyes whenever it comes up. Most people do not know of what they speak.

If anyone fancies being plied with coffee and pastries I could use some help passing some plasterboards up over a balcony on Saturday?
