There's plenty of time to get the miles in. Chillax

Good on your Jimm I'm still new to the whole running thing (comfortably running 5K) but I'd love to run it one day.

my knees would never stand up to a marathon on tarmac. wouldn't mind the challenge though

I'm doing the Liverpool Marathon on Sunday, goes through the Mersey tunnel, yuck. not sure how steep the climb up will be and my gps won't be working to check pace. Reckon I'll have to right my target times on my hand to check as I go through

Same, training starts today. Needed some motivation to get fit, its going to be the toughest thing I have ever done physically.

Brilliant mate, I'm training doing about 3 runs a week, mainly just to get fit to start with.

Right, on Sunday I did the ROTFL short course, then on Monday I did my supermarket run- and was really happy with it, averaged 7:26 minutes per mile.
Went out again today, same course, way harder than yesterday:

Which I suppose just serves to illustrate that cycling and running are very different activities.
If I went out and ran the same course tomorrow would that achieve anything, or would I be better served going to the gym instead?

Good luck. It's something I have always aspired to do but never got round to it

A day of rest from running would probably serve you best.
Has anyone tried the 'crossfit endurance' concept of training? http://www.crossfitendurance.com/
I have a couple of friends who have been using it as their base for their ironman season, but I'm not sold on the idea. -

Which garmin comoputers are you using to track your runs, looks like a handy piece of kit.

Its something i have been thinking about for ages, really need a kick up the arse to get in to shape and this will hopefully be it, just hoping I can stay relatively injury free.

Nice, will probably get it for xmas when the training really begins.

I think I paid £90, maybe less- there are frequent offers on them, nice bit of kit, I just wish it would lock onto the GPS satellites a bit faster.
I've got the bike mount on the CX bike, which the 305 clicks straight into.

I have the 310xt....it takes longer every week to lock on...have started switching it on and leaving it by the window/on the balcony to find satellites...bloody frustrating when I haven't.

I was sure mine was taking longer, but then thought I was just being paranoid.
Mine takes roughly a miles walk, plus some stretching, before it locks on.
I couldn't justify the additional cost of the 310 XT as the "you can swim wearing it" advantage was not something I needed.

• #1747
Mine took 15 minutes this morning! Maybe someone's done something to the satellite signal strength?
-
• #1748
the swim thing is a waste....It gets messed up and gives ridiculous readings, I got tired of calibrating the distance. I wouldn't go for the 310xt, I find it bulky too.
Tiswas - goodluck for the run...sounds fun....

yeah quality,
like cumbria
I love hills
sounds like a good influence :)
Wish me luck - I have my first race in 18 months today, I'm horrifically out of practice so I hope everything will go smoothly.
It's 8k offroad. I hope that I'll get back in less than 40 minutes based on the fact cycling has kept my fitness up but we will see. You never know what will happen on race day if you haven't trained properly!
