Lolz wheelying...
I think it'll be fine, looks beefy, probably heavy... And if it does break hardly a massive loss!
-
• #3
yeah I guess... just wanted to make sure there was no horror stories about them breaking or flaking. hardly a huge loss?!?! are you mad? £110 is a small fortune to me!

haha sorry I'm not the patient type ;)

Might be good for barspinz...
From the stats looks heavy as hell. 3.7Kg for frame and forks?! Can't comment on the geo.
I'd say even if it's the same standard as the unipack/create should probably be OK, the problems with cheap bikes is usually components disintegrating and falling off, not the frame it's self...
So yeah, not ridden one I'm fraid but FWIW you'll probably get what you see... You'll probably be sick of it quickly and wish you'd saved up to but something decent.
Though for a hundred quid you'd probably be better having a look in the classifieds section and waiting for something your size, but you don't seem type?

• #7
wait for something much better for around same price in classifieds..
-
• #8
I'll tell you this;
No.
save up a bit, and you'll be fine.
-
• #9
^+1 save and you'll enjoy the bike, not hate it.
-
• #10
Possibility is that a lot of stuff from your old bike won't fit so would add quite a bit to the cost (stem, seat post, bottom bracket, brakes etc,) and may well up totalling over £200 for a poor quality bike,
Look in local classifieds or eBay local pickup for a complete bike for £200.
-
• #11
ok thanks, I'm now keeping an eye on the classifieds.
pickup for a complete bike for £200.
sorry, I couldn't bring myself to do that!

You will over time. It's just how it goes.

Job + second hand charge plug
-

My brother just bought a plug for £200. Granted it'll never grace the bike porn pages here, but for what he uses it for it's perfect.

I'll tell you this;
No.
save up a bit, and you'll be fine.
Why ?
£100 seems good value for a cro-mo frame compared to the vastly overpriced ones that go for 3-5x that amount - Bianchi Pista, Cinelli Gazetta, BMW Gangsta Track etc etc etc
-
• #16
there's more to it than just what kind of tubing it have, the geometry, the quality, the weight etc.
2.5kg is pretty heavy, even BMW's clusterfork is lighter by 200kg.

• #17
London is flat. Weight is irrelevant. HTFU and ride that £100 pile of shite into the ground!
-
• #18
Agree, weight is not the relevant factor for a cheap run about bike but still don't expect to just spend £100. I would guess you would need the following at least;
New stem - your frame presumably has quill
New seat post - unlikely your old frame will be 27.2
New brakes - dependant on reach of current brakes
New all sorts of other stuff that just comes up when swapping frames! -
• #19
Why ?
True, but surely if you're at the £100 mark second hand is the way to go. Quick search of the completed listings on ebay says:
I still think my idea of a 2nd hand complete Plug is the way to go.

Another £80 and you can buy something truly awesome, with a CK headset, from ME!! =]
-
• #21
Don't do it! Buy a frame off the forum - £100 will get you a Langster/Paddy Wagon/Plug frame that will do a much better job.

thanks for the replies everyone, I do have to consider the fact that at my age the only good reason to ride fixed vs gears is that they look cool 8)
I've already got a ton of stems, front brakes etc, why would I need to change the BB?
I live in Cambridge (equally flat)so weight isn't much of an issue, and my current fixed is no spring chicken either! I was thinking of the red frame with white wheels and accessories.
Finally I don't want something I'm too attached to, as cambridge is a hotbed for bike theft -

looks to me like a cycle speedway frame, very steep headangle and no rake on the fork. there are a lot of these available cheap. i chap i knew was considering buying a load to sell on at a tidy profit for a similar price. its cheap its heavy = slow. speedway geometry = stupid toe overlap and shit steering. it just makes no sense to buy it! why ask for opinions and then completely disregard them.
-
• #24
A speedway frame that takes a 700c wheel with a fairly large tyre and also has brake drilling?

A find? anyone bought one?
I'm after a new fixed for riding 12 miles each way to college, obviously as a student it only needs to be strong enough for me to wheelie on. Atm I'm using an old converted triumph road frame, but it's too small, paint is crappy and i don't feel confident wheelying on it
