Don't use your phone as the wifi device. a laptop running windows or Linux, not sure about OS x, will be able to share the wifi joy. I think.

Still needs to be a non Wi-Fi connection.

So in theory I can connect with my phone, teather that via USB to my Powerbook and then share that connection over Wi-Fi. Heaven knows if it will be useable IRL, we shall see
