Basically if you buy a product that is faulty in the first 28 days (might be a 30, was 12 years ago when I was a retail manager) you are entitled to a full refund. After that most retailers will handle the repair up to a year. There was some guide lines to how long was deemed reasonable to handle the repair. But ultimately the warranty is with the manufacturer. Mobile phones which are subsidised my contract are usually dealt with by the network provider.
