I'm taking the 29er out tonight, to clear my somewhat muddled mind.
...with its slack angles, and 2.55" tyres.
When I get back from my commute on the CX bike.

Why would you want the handling charateristics to ride more technical trails, but no clearance for the tyres designed for them? Sorry Whytre, I simply do not understand your bike.
