Scoot, you know the grey rubber band on the middle of your shoes? it's to hold the shoelaces so you don't have to wrap them round your ankles.
I also found the shoelaces to be quite crap as it never hold properly when I was using them, replaced them with a different one and it's a lots better.
if you find it's a little flexy, replacing the insoles with a stiffer one make a world of a difference.
