i have never planted garlic in my garden, apparently the scent keeps mozzies away during the summer..
i reckon it is worth a go with some supermarket stuff in a seed tray, try and as get as fresh as possible, break bulb up without damaging any of the cloves, plant out tips showing in good compost over winter somewhere cool but away from frost,
plant out march/april in well prepared soil, have fleece or cloches on stand in case of any cold nights, water during dry spells to get a good crop, havest between july and sept, that's what my aunt in italy would say :)
