Cheers John. I like the dowel method. Margs and I need the fittings if you have enough.
-
• #2953
I just prefer M6 as you can reuse all the parts, and you don't need to drill the pole.
I've found one dowel, and loads of the big screws, I'll look for more.

I have just bought myself 10 of Specialized 700c X 20/28 (48mm valve) inner tubes from Condor cycle for £25. Obviously I don't need all 10, so I have got 5 to spare for £2.50 each, anyone interested before I post in the main classifieds forum?
-
• #2955
I'll have a few, save me say 3 of them and I'll buy them off you next tuesday, cheers.
-
• #2956
OK, the only problem is I might not be coming next Tues. If that's the case, the week after? Or are you gonna be at Newington this evening? I am picking up my allen keys from John there.
-
• #2957
Go on then. I'll take the other two. The week after is ok for me.
-
• #2958
OK, mate. I have got a memory of a goldfish, can you remind me of your name?
Anybody interested in more? I only work down the road from Condor, I can pop round at lunch time to get some if people want more. I think the 36mm valve ones are £20 for 10.

Battery update:
I've sent another where the hell are my batteries email to 7dayshop.com and they've finally replied saying, despite sending you an email saying they're despatched, there is a 7-14 day wait for these, sorry.
I've ordered some from Hong Kong which will hopefully arrive quicker.
Sorry for lack of toons at polo. -

Ok so I picked up the ebbe's old bike which he was freecycling... It's in such good nick I offered him some money for it. He said as it was free to him he couldn't take money.
But that if I go to beginners I should provide some drinks.
Was planning on coming next Tuesday anyway.
Anyone have any special requests other wise I'll just bring 12 larger and 6 cider? Will pick up some batteries too wicks. :)

Batteries are quite expensive as we need 8 x C cell. :-s
We could make it a bit of a party though so music could be good.I'm just about to hand over beginners to someone else for organising, not that it needs a lot of organising these days, but Tuesday will probably be my last day at beginners.
So yeah, a party vibe might be good. -

Yep: bottle ofWild Turkey 'cos you got to ebbe just before me #needapolobikesobad #gotamalletcomingthough #muststopimitatingTS'shashtags

I'm totally up for paying around £30 as that's what I paid on eBay for another bike that I was intending to use as a polo bike. Unfortunately this other bike has a stuck seatpost.
Rick if I get the seatpost unstuck, you can have ebbe's bike.
Oh, he also gave me a couple of mallets that I don't really need, one's a little shorter than i'd choose, the other would be perfect, but I've got plenty of mallets.
If any beginners want them I'll bring them on Tuesday.

****************** ANNOUNCEMENT ******************
Just to say that as I'm leaving for Australia soon I'm now handing the reins over to Paul Cowhen.
Not that these sessions need much organising these days (see the beginning of the thread a year and a half ago. I had to phone people to beg them to come) but at the moment they do still need co-ordinating.These beginners / casual sessions are part of a much bigger polo scene and we even have our own association, the LHBPA (London Hardcourt Bike Polo Association). Within this beginners sessions will be pushed North and South London and encouraged to grow, so being the South London beginners representative is an official role which will require some dedication later down the line.
I know Paul will make a really good job of this.If you wanted to join the LHBPA it's £5 a year and it's these people that get you the equipment and organise the awesome tournaments. If you can spare £5 for polo then do please join.
http://www.lhbpa.org/join/I'll come on Tuesday to help Louis drink all that beer, and maybe the occasional throw in after, but I just wanted to say to all those that have been and gone, beginners / casual polo was truly awesome, thanks very much.

Joni, you'll be missed, but that goes without saying. Hoping for a big send-off polo on Tuesday.
Paul, thanks for stepping up.
Did I understand from that post that there's North beginner's polo in the works?
-
• #2969
Yeah, pretty much. It just needs someone to step up and start it. Hint, hint...
-
• #2970
Your not leaving! I haz your passport!
-
• #2971
Wasn't gonna come this coming Tues, but now I AM!! Haven't really gotten to know you that well Joni, but thanks for starting me off with polo.
-
• #2972
Joni, Joni, don't do it!
I can't come Tuesday [late work and early flight] but I still need to return your mallet - so I can buy you a beer then and give you hearty thanks for such a great introduction to polo. You'll be missed.

Anyone have advice on what gear ratio to run on my polo bike? It's 1.8 now, but I just came into some new cranks, so I can pretty much pick anything. 26" fyi.
-
• #2974
Joni - thanks for the sterling work with beginners/casual polo. it's been really fun playing polo with you and hanging out at this'n'that.
In for tuesday. Gonna be emotional.

Given the choice you should go for around 40 gear inches. Not sure what kind of ratio you'd need with 26" but Look at some Internet gear inch calculators to work it out. (sheldon has one for example)
I'll have a dig around, I might have some spare fittings as well, but I think the M6 method works better than the dowel method.
