This biggest challenge is the stopping and starting with all the other wobbly cyclists. It's very slow but you have to concentrate and it's not for everyone! That said you could always join for a bit and peel off if you're not having a good time.
Thanks. She's up now and says she'd rather get the train in. London Bridge, possibly.
Have a lovely day, -

Took Mrs TS down for a ride as she's still a relative novice on our great city's roads... She had fun but was a little dismayed at all the dickheads there (not me BTW, she's pretty accustomed to me being a dick)... I'm talking about the MAMILS on £3k road bikes who thought they were doing a TdF TT but were mainly cutting up three year olds on their first Puky bikes... Fuck off!!!

I notice that Joe, told a couple of them off really loudly, ride leader vest top helped!

I saw so many near misses, remarkable... I gently reminded a few people to hold their line/not cut people up/watch where they were going/slow down...

back.. took my girlfriend on her twenty, she has ridden a bike all of twice and was very nervous, but the stewards on the mile end-tower hill route helped her to boost her confidence and relax.
The route itself was congested (most of the bottlenecks were just parents being cautious with kids, etc), it was actually probably a little bit more difficult for her than the route there at some stages. But being able to ride in circles on the mall and follow a raggaton trailer down the embankment really made up for it.
What I didn't understand was why some people insist on tying to weave fast through the crowds.. where exactly are they going? That and the inevitable random cut-ups and emergency stops. I couldn't help but think it would be a good idea to have cycling 'tips' postered on bridges and the like along the route..
Overall I reckon it's a decent event. Didn't see many skiddaz or forum caps..

Did it with my nine year old this morning. There seemed to be fewer people than last year, which made it loads easier. It may be full of nodders and twats, but if it shows a kid that 17 miles on his bike is no problem, I'll like it.

Saw a lovely red Hetchins while on the ride today.

Whole idea of skydiving too stressful, cooked meatballs instead. Hmph, meant skyriding but spellcheck knows best.

To be honest, I think the feeders ride is more enjoyable than the skyride itself, if I were a first timer, the feeder ride would've been perfect.
I know my group seemed to liked it, even though we were going quite slowly (usually to avoid the group from thinning out and getting motorists into the gap) despite a handful of people who doesn't like the speed, we all get on well, especially as it allowed us to chat as we go along.

The ride leaders had a rather fetching pink hi-viz to wear. Not sure I would like to wear this again. Not as many on our lead ride into London (from Greenwich as in previous years - even less going back. Perhaps London Bridge had more cyclists than usual during the day....) Not to omany stands in St James's park but I guess it was quality not quantity this year.
Herne Hill Velodrom has its formal opening Wednesday morning - Mssrs Boardman and Robertson (sports minister) opening. Anyone going to the meet on Sunday - and perhaps staying for the free bike powered film afterwards - Breaking Away?

D went on his second SkyRide™ this weekend. Needless to say when it was suggested that he may like a
green florescent bib emblazoned with the ubiquitous Sky™ logo he requested a not insubstantial fee for
acting as a cute moving human billboard. No cash equals “your having a giraffe love”, his words. We still had a splendid time with all the dayglo nodders, especially in the Blackfriars Underpass where
Dougals kazoo prowess was in no doubt. Our only complaint, a few Raphad up road warriors weaving
through the masses of Bumper girls sparkle bikes & Argos full suspensions ridden by over excited seven
year olds. If you want to gun down closed city streets without scaring the kids you need to get up a shit
the bed o clock. I rode the route at 8am and it was virtually empty bar the stewards, so there. -

A very enjoyable day that only got better with having a chat with Geraint Thomas for a bit

It was a big enough group on the way in IMO. Much fewer on the way back, but then it was late and had been raining.
It's currently dry in Kew and I can feel the sun trying to come through the clouds! Couldn't speak for central London though I'm afraid.
