"The new mini"
Hope that doesn't mean they'll be ditching the "old" one...

Kryptonite have posted photos of some of their new products here: https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.10150317303219777.354848.183549694776&type=1
Not sure about the whole integrated lock thing, but the mount for the mini Fahg looks good.
Back from Eurobike. andytk-The New Chain were received very well and it fills the gap below the New York series for those not in need to the security level of a New York product. Having the Disc lock as a separate on the New York Chains has true advantages for those that use it for proper lock-ups, but some like the fact the these are all inclusive units. Preference and security level needed will be the judge here.
This new Transit H-Bar mount will surely work with those New York Mini Fahgettaboudit’s and other Ulocks- even Cable too. We think this should help on transports, it has a 2-point mounting support to keep it from swaying. Some better images soon if you'd like. -Don -

DFresh- No way would we ditch the Evolution Mini's (5,7,9), these continue. These 2 new series of chains < EVS4(10mm) & KLS2(9mm) >will have this new style of a Mini brought into a chain. 55cm lengths makes these act like a 3.5" x 7.5" shackle dim, so just a bit more than a Mini-7, but the flex it give around some objects instead of a rigid bar makes it work really well. - Don

I'm liking the transit option, may affect steering a bit, but would be an easy way to quickly carry a lock without a bag.
I was hoping Kryptonite would released one of their motorcycles disc lock as an alarmed one for bicycle.

I think many on here have wondered what IS the best lock; well disappointment of disappointments, there isn't specifically a best lock per se. But there are a few locks that are more secure than all the rest.
I think I was right to label the Kryptonite Fahg Mini and the Abus Granit X-59 as the 2 most secure locks, but its come as a bit of a surprise that the OnGuard Brute 5001 STD in a straight test (non-scientific), beat the Fahg Mini. This happened in 2009, in the May issue of Maxim magazine. It took longer to be defeated by angle grinder. The article was called The Great Lock Off.
I'm not saying its better, as Kryptonite work tirelessly to improve their products, and I believe that their locking mechanism and amount of key options, make them the preferred choice. But if time taken to defeat matters, then the OnGuard Brute is a very astute choice.

I used that very website to get mine price matched at Evans. And these guys http://www.farnhamcycles.co.uk/Shop/p/25057-kryptonite-evolution-mini-standard-lock-with-bracket/ to get my Evo mini price matched. I do like that Evans never quibble when you show them a cheaper price.

twofish have had something very similar for quite some time.
ammar- Yes, they have been selling their rubber craddle for sometime. What we tried to do was make a better mount for the handlebars. a few differences in the new H-Bar are - The mount is a secured fit with nut and bolt clamp to keep the mount stationary on the handlebars, as a hook-n-loop strap cannot be tightened enough to stop rotation on the bars. The H-Bar supports two points(crossbar & shackle), this stops the lock from swaying right to left when crankin on the pedals. and last you might need to buy 2 version of theirs(small & large), vs. the 2 in 1 H-Bar unit to fit a NYFU and a EV Mini. - Don

In the real world, do you think that (with a Fagh as a main lock round rear wheel, frame and post) an OnGuard Bulldog Mini to lock the front wheel would be more / less effective than a cable extension through the front wheel, plus the Virtual Village alarm on the chainring? Swings and roundabouts, I guess - two D locks is arguably a better deterrent to wheel theft as the extenders tend to be made of Edam, but the alarm seems more likely to stop the whole thing being nicked...
(by the way, I've got an S-A front brake hub, so I don't think that you can get locking nuts for it...)

If you can carry the weight of 2 u-locks, or if you leave it/them ready to use at a favourite post, then a cable is NO match at all for any serious locks. The alarm is only recommended for the very highest crime areas, or for use within a shared accommodation.

I can take the weight if it means keeping my baby safe (it's a homemade affair that's worth not a lot, but is inestimably precious to softies like me). Thanks for the advice :)

How you lock your locks to your bike is the key. Filling the shackles as much as possible, so as to not allow bottle-jacking will be the most important thing that you can do, after selecting the actual locks that work best.

Personally I would use two D-locks, even if the 2nd was a lightweight one.
I have heard the Virtual Village Alarm go off - it did not seem that loud to me, certainly not as loud as the Karabus locks. I like the ergonomics of it, just would prefer it louder.

How much room do bottle jacks actually need. I use an M18 which i really like because of the length but as far a i can tell it's the width rather than the length that a bottle jack needs, like the below piccy. The M18 is actually quite narrow, about the same width as a Fagh mini. Could a bottle jack fit in there

I've just done a quick bit of research, and it seems that 2.5inches or 63.5mm seems to be the minimum retracted/lowered height. I've found 3 manufacturers that have that type of mini bottle jack, and thankfully, all 3 have a maximum expansion force of 5 tonnes. Its only when getting up to the 4.75inch or 120.7mm, that they can attain the 10 tonne force that would break several of the locks that are recommended. But again, if Edscoble's or fred's method of locking is utilised then the bottle jack is rendered useless, as it can't fit in the gap. Fahg Mini owners have no such worries.

Thanks GA2G, you've put my mind at rest regarding bottle jacks, as my M18 is the same width as the fagh mini (0.05in narrower actually according to the krypto website). As your no doubt aware the Krypto M18NX (which i have/use) is actually quite long, a lot longer than normanl U locks like the standard krypto new york lock or abus granite 54 which are on the recommended list. So this nullifies the Edscoble of fred method of filling the lock. But the length of my M18 is what i really like about it, as i found the fagh min that i once owned too fiddly
