  • DoF is rarely/never shallow on digital compact with the exception of those with a larger sensor (like 4/3rd, APS-C, etc.)

    Think of it in relation to aperture - the smaller the aperture (F/11) the more depth of field, the sensor is already quite small thus creating a very large depth of field, so your assessment is right.

    you may get a shallow one with macro/closed up, but that's about it.
