I used to jump a crap hand-me-down shopper off home made ramps until I knew better, then I got a bike fit for purpose, which didn't restrict what I could do.
I get the feeling people who harp on about "just having fun" claiming it doesn't matter what bike they use have only been riding a year or two and are yet to advance to a stage where equipment limitations would bother them... Sure riding one of those monstrosities would be mildly amusing for a few mins but you can not do on them what you could on a bike with gears and a freewheel, and that's quite simply a fact.
Sorry to harp on everyone... and thanks for calling me an "adult", sadly I'm quite far from being a proper one...
