How often do experienced cyclists find themselves in situations where they are having to panic brake to the point where they actually forget that only one of their levers is a working one? Honestly?
True, not very often. But when your friends try your bike out, or when your locking it up, the levers do get moved.
Fwiw, I just use a short section of brake cable with wood glue skewered down the brake cable. It's ok. But it does have the advantage of not leaving a cable groove on one side of the bars and not the other...which I find surprisingly annoying.
