  • 'ucken hell! Chilli Monday!

  • BEANS!!!

    Heretics, the lot of you.

  • Tried pulled beef with a bit of brisket, flavour good but texture terrible. Too tough

  • How long? Normally brisket is 12+ hours at low temperature.

  • did 11 hrs at 100C same as the pork but it seemed to dry out where pork stayed moist

  • How much fat was left? Brisket is helped by the layer of fat but it will dry out much more than pork - hence the need for BBQ sauce.

  • yeah it was super lean

  • ^have you guys got any recipes for pulled pork/beef bodeans steez?

  • My beans are boiling.

  • nuts

  • Had too much Chilli... feel sick. Better drink Tequila.

  • Just back from Haka sans for my friends birthday, was really rather excellent tonight, everything we selected was good. Nom.

I really want to go there ^
    Is it very expensive?

  • I've got a big bag of lemon salt from Turkey sitting in my larder. What should I do with it?

    Bin it, tis pungent

  • Went to Sagar in Hammersmith last night. Had cycled past every day for the past 4 months but not stopped. Why oh why?

The starter was proper South Indian breakfast food - Sev Puri - tiny pancakes smothered with yoghurt, onions, spices, chutney and then sprinkled with fried noodles. A perfect mixture of crispiness, crunch, cool, tang and spiciness.

For the mains, my lentil and rice dosa was perfect. Crispy on the outside, warm and soft in the middle and stuffed full of delicious chopped veg. James' paper paneer dosa was no less than 3.5 feet long and drew gasps from the other punters and soon after, groans from him.

We hardly needed anything else but also devoured several bhajee dishes - aubergine (out of this world), suki (interesting little green veg with coconut), mixed veg (hot and comforting with delicious rich spices). All of this came with generous potions of broth-like sambar and coconut chutney.

This will definitely become a rival to Saigon-Saigon on wintry bike rides home.

  • Damn. Missed it: when's the next one?

Supper club I meant: sounds fun!

  • Just had one of the most depressing meals of my life.I was in the middle of eating a Chinese curry that tasted like it had come out of a tin in a nasty cheapo Chinese café in Southwark with a couple colleagues and I got suddenly overwhelmed by this massive wave of sadness. For some reason the horrible food and conversation about other dodgy fast food brought back a really strong memory of being taken to a Wimpy by my dad when I was very little. Must have been under 6. I remember being absurdly excited and a bit afraid and the memory of what hopelessly timid and cringingly shy child I was, and how fierce and grumpy my dad was with us just really got me down. I’ve only just got over it. Middle class problems eh?

  • ^Food additives.

  • ^^ have some curly kale. it'll make you feel a lot better.

Cheeringly though, my dad also featured in one of the best meals i've had a while this weekend. After a visit to the burbs (and his allotment) on Saturday i came away with 2 carrier bags bulging with home-grown french and runner beans, courgettes, a cauliflower, half a red cabbage, three big potatoes, handfuls of garlic and another whole bag of kale.

cooked down the green and baby yellow courgettes with olive oil, lemon juice lots of garlic a touch of red chilli. cooked them down into a spreadable mushy dip-like consistency. skinned and broke up four cooking chorizo and fried off with a huge pile of the trimmed and chopped french and runner beans. Finished off with tsatziki and wholemeal pittas charred on dry grill pan. Was absolutley delicious.

  • fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu...
