The pre-race DJ was appalling, and leaving near the back of the pack must've cost me 15 minutes compared to earlier starters. I could've run the single track and North Shore sections quicker than most of the people seemed to be riding them.
Also, having an ex-World Cup stage (DH & XC!) winner win? cough Ringer cough
Disappointed Ed wasn't there to do it on his Globe though.
Pre race DJ played exactly the right type of music for the event I thought? Cheesy, upbeat pop? From what I seen everyone was enjoying it!
I started from the same place as you and Mick, Tom, and someone hid my bike on the starting grid so I spent ages trying to find it and still completed the course in not much over 2 hours. If your stats are right in saying you'd have been 15 mins quicker I woulda been in contention for the win! The winner done it in around 1:45-ish. I got held up on the single track but it only left me with tons more energy for each climb on the first lap. Second lap I didnt get held up as much. Although I did pas quite a few people on the single track!
This race was so much fun in all honesty. A lot of people weren't doing it to compete for the win (myself included) and there were a lot of mixed ability and crazy bikes. I just went all out and tried to do it as best I could, but so many others were in fancy dress and I even spoke to a couple who did it all tandem!
Best weekends mountainbiking I've ever had, even though there were only about 4 hours of mountainbiking, compared to the 14 hours of sleeping, 13 hours of driving, 10 hours of drinking, and countless hours eating!
Was nice meeting you guys and always nice to see Mick back in Ireland.
