been experimenting with BlueQuinn's suggestion...

quite easy to change the colour and number
code for the icon is:
http://chart.apis.google.com/chart?chst=d_map_spin&chld=0.75|-0|CC3333|12|_|221

to change the number, just change the last three
to change the colour you change the CC3333 bit to one of the different colours here

any thoughts/preferences?

Christ, I haven't seen web safe colours mentioned for a long time.
