All the focus confirmation is, is the little green light/beep that comes one when you (approximately) hit focus - there is just a chip on the adapter to tell it that there is a lens attached (as without it it thinks there isn't a lens and therefore doesnt offer focus confirmation)
As mentioned - FD is also one of the other mounts that has a shorter flange distance than EF - so it won't focus to infinity.
If you are looking at buying old lenses - look at m42, OM, C/Y, K mount or Nikon mount as they are all easily adaptable with cheap adapters and will focus to infinity
