If you did the Urban Hill Climb this year on a fixed-gear bike, what gear did you use?
And was the gear too big?
I think I read somewhere that someone used 44x19.Jobs.
-
• #315
last year I did it on 44x16, flat pedals, no clips/straps... not advised.
i made it but only made it because the crowd was yelling things like "don't you dare get off that fucking bike!".
made it but it killed me.

How quickly do you want to get to the top? It's beatable on pretty much anything you're likely to be running and gear choice is a personal thing. On the day, I did it geared (39x16/17/19) and was 'comfortable'. On the Norths Death TT I did it fixed on 50x16 and was definitely not comfortable. Still got there.
(and not slowly either, the latter was a flying start so not directly comparable but still would have placedwellacceptably in the climb proper) -

Always a good night this one
I recall the accusation was patronising and possibly a little inbred.
Great poster by the way, if I had ridden it this year I would definitely be buying one as a souveneir. It would look great in a living room, hallway, kitchen or in your office. I would be tempted to buy two so that my mother could have one on display in the breakfast room.
