  • that looks familiar ;)
    good choice.

  • That will be a pair of BMC's?

  • Just bought this F&F for £70 (don't even know if that's good value or not). Going to build it into my first road bike but I don't know the first thing about them yet - lots of decisions to make. Should be fun learning!

  • That will be a pair of BMC's?

Indeed until the track frame sells at least
    @sumo eBay bargain

  • College taxi... waiting for my next paycheck so i can get me some sexy white rims

  • White rims aint sexy.

  • what would you suggest then?

  • Yay Frame arrived today....

Now to get new Wheels, Chainset, Rear Mech and Ergo Levers as i'm thinking of upgrading this to 10 spd.

  • 1+

right now I'm trying to sort out the cantis on the new carbon fork on the Gangsta, it's the only last piece that defintely needed improving as the original clusterfork was way too stiff and little rake for my liking (32mm, new fork is 45mm)

Ed - I've just read here that BMWs are drilled for a caliper brake - is that correct? if so why did you braze canti's onto yours?

Hson TB14's to dura ace low flange hubs, would look classy, but probably be OTT.

...or for a set of cheap and cheerful, but probably lighter nicer wheels, mavic open sports to planet x track hubs.

White rims will look a bit naff and like you're trying to hard. At the moment, you've got a nice looking solid beater, keep it that way, until you can afford something that will really benefit from spending some money on.

Canti's have more clearance, and are therefore better off road.

    What's it like off-road ed?

Bike is perfect as is. I wouldn't do anything.

  • ^ this.

Maybe just tighten the chain a bit.

  • Uuuh path bike... not really. Road bike? no. It's the SJS 'winter bike', they sold tgem for about £150 for frame and forks, made of tange ChroMo, kind of tourer geo, 'steers like a boat' (< quote from a well known canadian witch...). I think tge cable stop was for a hub gear, or something.

And the expression is 'track ends', as opposed to 'drop outs' which face forward or down.

    So ner.

I bought this frame for £15 via a couple of people on here, it was in pretty poor condition (bad paint work, seized bottom bracket/crank and seatpost) but I stripped the paint, removed the seized parts etc and got a neighbour to spray it for free.

Judging from the mudguard eyelets, average clearances and drilled rear brake (the former I must admit I removed) it looks to be a path not a track frame. It's quite light and has made for a good starting point for my first 'proper' build. Thanks to those that provided parts - still awaiting some better forks, chainring and a couple of other bits but for now I'm happy.

There's some more pretentious spiel and extra photos on my equally pretentious blog which can be found here.

i wonder why you kept the cable stopper...

  • Cheer up Skully.

Only thing I need now is Thomson stem. Really pleased with this one.

  • Big bikes are that way ; )

    >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

Seriously tho, it looks great. Personally I think that stem is much more attractive on that build than anything Thomson has to offer.

Also where on earth did you find the DA front hub?

  • Aye, maybe.
Like[you say, probably need to ride it really.
It's as big a frame as I'm comfortable with, so I figured an 80mm stem would be a good starting point.

QUOTE=rodabod;2342779]Stem looks quite short. Still, you'll need to ride it to see. An aero post would look good there in my opinion.[/QUOTE]

Thanks! :) Stems doesn't look to bad no, but its no where near stiff enough to make up for the carbon bars so a change is needed.

I bougth my hubs from TokyoFixedGear. Cheapest I could find within europe.

  • Big Van Nicholas

Such ornate track ends! Lovely bike

  • but its no where near stiff enough to make up for the carbon bars

Look forward to hearing your explanation.

  • You must have have an ugly girlfriend or a fucking awful sex life.

Why not both? I'm not sure how that's relevant to the question of why a carbon handlebar demands a stiffer stem, but it seems odd for you to have presented your erroneous conclusions as an either/or proposition.

  • Why would carbon handlebars be particularly stiff in comparison to alloy bars?

  • I have a set of ma2 rims, with nexus 7 speed in rear.

whats the biggest tyres I could stick on? I fancied 35c delta cruisers, but worried might be pushing it a bit. I've had 32c world tours on a road rim for touring before but not 35c.

clearance shouldnt be an issue as its an old 27" frame and i'm converting to run 700c.
