There Are no disturbances at the moment in Leytonstone, but all the chavy dickheads on their mopeds are back. Oh, how I genuinely deeply hate the fuckres farting in buckets after midnight. I can almost see them in my mind - riding in baggy t-shirts and grey tracksuit bottoms, with their legs dangling freely, because they're too bloody cool to just seat like people on those fucking shitty scooters. What's to stop this kind of shit flaring up every few weeks, every summer perhaps ?
Well, they seem to have discovered a guerilla tactic to apply to disorder, the action of many small (but sizeable enough to warrant a sturdy response) groups that operate independently.
In doing so they've found that police tactics are insufficient to deal with them, unless every last policeman happens to be on the street. This isn't a sustainable way of handling them, so in effect the hooligans (don't know what else to call them) now know that so long as they can organise the many groups to appear at the same time across the same town and city, that they can do whatever they want.
Therein lies their greatest challenge, can they pull off spontaneous organisation? I very much doubt it even with all of the technology at their hands.
They probably can achieve it in response to triggers though, and there's likely to be more triggers over the coming years as cuts bite deeper.
Of course, arresting a significant number now, and funding efforts that embrace the disenfranchised may help to win over or reduce the numbers of a softer lot. Which may help reduce the power of a hardcore group of hooligans. Which may be successful at removing their ability to even gather large enough groups to protect them against police reaction.
I would guess that whilst it's certainly possible to flash up in the future, and that the tactics will almost certainly be seen again, it's not actually likely that they're able to co-ordinate themselves to pull it off.

90% of the rioters I saw in Peckham were young black males but then roughly 80 to 90% of the young men I see in Peckham (say when going shopping for example) are black. From travelling along Walworth Rd (although I don't live there I don't live far away) I'd say the vast majority of young men I see in that area are black. So the fact that most of the rioters both on Walworth Rd and in Peckham were black shouldn't really come as much of a surprise.
... I don't think you're being racist it's just the population of these areas, non?
It's an unsavory aspect, and there are plenty of people out there ready to quote ENoch Powell, and I don't really want to be put in with their lot, but similarly I don't want to go in with those who blithely shout "racist" at anyone who mentions the elephant in the room. (Not you, VanUden, by the way)Are people seeing the make-up of the groups coming together to tidy up the mess?

Agreed, every significant event of the right kind will be taken as a legitimising agent for that weekends rice riots.

The thing is I don't think you need that much organisation, I agree the group needs to self-organize (the gang moving together) - but I doubt the gang in Harrow talked to the gangs in Hackney or Bristol or Lewisham, the element of exponential growth in activity seems spontaneous triggered only by reports and rumours of similar activity rather than coordination.
