  • Highgate

Yep highgate is pretty quiet although i did see some kids hanging about outside the tesco express on swains lane

  • Ok. Anyway, my point is (and I'm sure this isn't the place to make it) that there would be more pressure to protect the "nicer" parts of London (say, in the West) than there would be in the South or East (and it seems to me that the police are not doing their all as it is to protect any part of London, so they surely have more resources which could be thrown). This is true in most places around the world, I don't have any reason to doubt its truth in London.

    Anyway.

    Yeah.

Damn right. If they wanted to feel the full force of the Met riot squad, head to The City.

  • Would it be easier if we start listing 'safe' areas - where there is no shit going off ?

Come to Richmond. 2 miles from the nearest dangers in kingston.

  • Kentish Town and Chalk Farm

Police are sending more units to check earlier reports of violence in Kentish Town and Chalk Farm,

  • This is the second time I've seen someone make this point. Maybe I'm a pussy, or maybe I don't care about my possessions that much, but: I'd be more worried about my flat being broken into if I were at home!

    You're a pussy.

  • Can't vouch for over the river though, dancing james lives down there... anything could be happening.

  • putney's fine....
    all reports untrue as yet.

  • Highgate
    Brockley

Doesn't Highgate have the pet store/vets with a big sign about 'CAT AIDS' outside? Nothing up there to loot. No one wants to get cat AIDS all over them...

If they break in whilst I'm here I can tut at them, and look disaproving.

    I might mutter as well.

  • i was stuck in the middle of the lewisham riots today and i watched as the police were chased out of a part of the street in which every one looted a little phone shop before going onto the jewlers.

  • Damn right. If they wanted to feel the full force of the Met riot squad, head to The City.

Except that would be the City of London Police, then we see some proper incompetence

  • Who the fuck is the wizard man of sutton?

Conrad the Wizard. Wanders up and down the high street with his dog&cat looking like a lost extra from Lord of the rings.

  • Chiswick and Brentford is quiet. Nowt going on out West.

    apart from ealing

  • No, Borough Commander are performance managed on crime in their borough and are set target etc. The commander tend to be bothered about the crime and their targets in their borough. So Hackney cares about the targets set for Hackney etc.

  • Camden

kids are apparently roaming around shouting anti-police slogans

  • If they break in whilst I'm here I can tut at them, and look disaproving.

I might mutter something about needing some plastering done as well.

  • There's shit going down in Ealing? I can see Ealing from here... looks and sounds quiet.

  • Plenty of helicopter action overhead here on Brixton/Clapham borders.

  • Can't vouch for over the river though, dancing james lives down there... anything could be happening.

Dancing James I can handle, Prancer is the one to be concerned about.

  • Mankind is doomed.

  • Sorry, don't understand (and sure you know): each borough has it's own control over the met for that borough?

Each borough has a borough police force, but they are of course firmly part of the Metropolitan Police. Borough forces often help out across borough boundaries.

Wouldn't that mean that political parties which won the local elections have control over the police in that area?

No, it means that of course the police work closely together with local politicians.

Just on Thursday I was talking to a Hackney police officer I know who had just joined the Hackney Central Safer Neighbourhoods Team (the ward where a lot of today's disturbance has been centred). I can't imagine how she must be feeling--or the local councillors and other people working to improve the place.
