how do they work

Looks to me like a road frame with horizontal dropouts.
Definitely imo. Waterbottle bosses, full braze-ons, low BB, rear brake bridge.
It doesn't really make a difference tho, so I wouldn't worry. Personally I'd have kept the mudguard eye's as they're useful and never really notice. But it's a really nice build, and you've done it to a budget, which always feels good.

I take it you'll be lowering your saddle a bit....?
-
• #49188
I've got a 96cm inseam, what frame is that?
What's your size?
Missed this, going by the catalogue the closest fit would be a 62.

Yeah, its actually about 1cm to high up. :)
Framesize is 59CTx59CC.
You might remember a Moda Forte with a lot of spacers under the stem. I've learnt a bit and corrected my fit since then. I've done back exercises to improve flexibility so I can get closer to a horisontal back position. Worked wonders over the last couple of weeks.
This is Theo Bos's old bike. Notice the sadle to bar distance.

The replacement Cove.
A lovely light Ti frame. Really surprised at the weight of it even with the wheels and everything on. Heavies bit is the forks, but bombers aren't known for their weightweenie attraction. I prefer Marzocchi to Fox. I don't have to keep on top of servicing but I will loose performance as the seals go. I've got a half link chain and an eccentric BB to go on as it'll be singlespeed
The tyres on there are Michelin 1.95's. A bit of a mystery to me as I've not used such a skinny tyre in over 7yrs. For the past 4yrs I've been using nothing smaller than 2.3". They'd be great for cyclocross. But I can't imagine riding my local trails on them
Still need brakes, BB spacers, grips and a saddle.
One of the most awesome Ti mountain bikes out there mate. I have two coves ( a hustler and a f'narr f'narr Stiffee)
Loverly :)

Pulled apart the bottom bracket and gave it a good clean and grease. Super smooth now! Does any one know anything about Mercian serial numbers? It has 50977 stamped under the bb. Would this mean it was made in 77?
Also took some more photos of it before I chuck it up for sale.

How come you're selling?
-
• #49195
Too many bikes in a small apartment and I want to spend some money on that green Columbus Max frame I posted a while back.
But it does ride really nicely so I am kind of torn to sell or not!
-
• #49196
i dunno, if it was mine I wouldn't be selling it, too nice! Then again, I am a bit of a hoarder...
