The front ring would be a 32,34 or 36. 36 being the standard 104bcd middle ring.
I ride a 36x13 which is 72". Fine on a road bike and yes at time I could do with bigger while out on the roads.
For city riding it would be fine and if as spotter mentions the rider intends on carrying loads then the gearing would be great.
You ride a 53x13? Why? did you start riding when you played rugby and never grew into the habit of pedaling at a decent cadence.
