The Rover 2.0 M or T series will fit right on to an MGB gearbox as it's got basically an O series block, which is basically a B series block. The turbo versions are 200bhp in stock trim, and they are very tuneable engines. I think some of the Morris Marina nutters are quite well versed in the conversion. They are also unburstable.
I reckon it would be cheaper than a V8, for more power, more easily obtained. Of course a turbo 4 is a very different motor, but it might be fun.
