Any engine within reason will fit to any gearbox just need an adaptor plate/bell housing made up. Its advisable to get a gearbox that will take the power and not just destroy itself. How much money and time is another.
Any engine will fit in to any body given enough time and a big enough hammer ;) remember the first lamborghini?
Then depends on how much money and how much modifying you wish to do, as proof.
SR i'd look at the landy tdi 250/300/td5 but look in to servicing if you wish to keep it as if you need to take the engine out to do a cambelt change and the water pump. Been there and got annoyed.
