A quick question - have you recced this route? I'm fairly sure the section at 29 miles (between the bottom of Stock Lane and Stock village)is more farm track/footpath than public highway. I think you are better staying on Ingatestone Road then taking a left at Honeypot Lane to take the short but moderately testing climb up to Stock.

Yep - those are my photos/bike at the top! I do like to include the odd off road bit to add a little interest, it was going to be a surprise... But that particular lane ('Back Lane') has been closed off with a barrier, so I went the way you describe (and we will for the ride itself).

I'd love to do it, but I'm coming back three days after that.

My bank holiday weekend is looking a bit empty and am miffed at missing the Herne Bay Ride so will make up for it with this one I reckon, come hell or proverbial highwater.
