Quick question, I've got a friend who wants to swap his drops for straight bars so I was wondering if these bmx levers would work ok with standard road calipers?

They would, but it has been my experience that it is much more pleasurable to use side pull caliper brakes with a four finger lever. You also need to be aware that they might not fit on whatever flat bars you are using.

BMX are 7/8" which is smaller than the usual 25.4 / 1"
