Clint, I think you over value Redknapp's achievements.
He took over a good squad, with good players underachieving, and got them to play football, cohesively. which is to his credit, but all that Winters has stated remain true.
We were good enough with the spine of that team under Jol to be top 5, slumped under Ramos and now Redknapp got us into the Champions League. But the worries that any fan has about their managers competency when the next step has to be taken and glaring deficiencies aren't sorted means that Harry is going to come in for flak.
I also think he's taken us as far as he can. To get higher we need a bit more nous, and a plan b, and coaches who are willing to get the players (all of them) playing stylish attacking football, with no favourites or anyone protected if they don't produce the goods, and the youngsters to be blooded, with space being made for them if they are good enough.
All our striking enquiries are being rebuffed, rossi, is staying at villareal until they get a big money bid, vucinic has just gone to juve, llorente is still in the wind. Mata wants to go to Arsenal. And we're still trying to sell on, to trim the wage bill and get the money together to buy new players in...
I think the board got scared when Juande Ramos didn't settle and we didn't make the big push to get into the Champions League and went back to the good old english values, represented by 'Arry.
And they threw up some interesting non english names such as Michael Laudrup at Malaga, Vincenzo Montella over at Roma, Unai Emery at Valencia, and Jurgen Klopp at Dortmund.
Also some names for managers in england, Gus Poyet, Paul Lambert, and Owen Coyle.
this is make or break for Redknapp and probably for this team as currently situated, so he needs to stop underplaying what we can achieve as he tries to instill that underdog mentality, and to push the team on in terms of tactics and squad rotation so we can make a genuine title challenge and aim for that fourth spot..

Personally I'd like us to go out and get a good young manager with a bit of drive and an attacking footballing philosophy. I was trying to think of some up and coming english managers, and got this forum thread. Who are the up and coming managers in World football? - The Dugout Football Manager Community
