  • congrats ^ all about the forest running for me this week- 6 days of it to be precise
    Scotland is lovely!

  • First imperial century yesterday. Legs died in the last 15 miles though.

    That is quite impressive.

I need to stop reading this thread. Or give up cycling.

We flagrantly stole clefty's route to Windsor that the girls rode recently. Much nicer than a route I'd previously done. Stopped for a superior breakfast in Hampton Court then onward ho. Lots of club cyclists about and a sole fellow on a beautiful Colnago. Ice cream and Hoegaarden once in Windsor.

  • hope you didnt mix the ice cream into the hooegarden, fun day hey

  • Sure was. Windsor makes me ever gladder to live in London though.

  • bloody Windsors, cant get away from em, and I dont mean Babs

  • Did my usual 2 hour (ish) loop round Kent late this arvo. Repositioned my cleats last week, it has made a world of difference. Haven't been that comfortable on a bike for bloody years and years.

    36 miles, 19mph average.

  • Did my first Cat 4 race at Hillingdon. I felt strong enough for it, but my tactics were way off. Too much time in the wind, put in a big effort on the front at exactly the wrong time (as the bell went), then was behind a crash in the final corner. It was a lot of fun though.

  • Spent the weekend camping in Taylor Park near Mehama, Oregon. Rode up there from Salem. Here's a typical view from the Old Mehama Highway. The Cascade Mountains are in the background. Wish I had one with Mt Jefferson's glacial peak in view, but that wasn't to be.

  • Did nothing. Got drunk. But the previous weekend was cycling in the Alps so fuck it. #winddown

  • That is quite impressive.

Never give up cycling. It is ace.

  • I was out on the weekend, doing my normal run. It was a bit more high-tech than normal, as I've bought a Garmin 705 for my John O'Groats - Land's End ride later in the year.

The way-finding/mapping I tried out on the Dun Run, and it worked flawlessly.

I hooked up the cadence sensor and HRM this weekend for the first time on my road bike to see how they work.

The data you get out of them is amazing. Somehow I don't think I'll be troubling Thor Hushovd - 181bpm for the win ;-)

  • ^ I'd be interested to see your John o Groats to Lands End route when you finalise it, if possible.

Me and some friends thinking about doing this ride next year but being a Londoner for the last 18 years my knowledge of that bit north of Watford is a bit vague.

Also i hate sat navs in cars but after seeing some people with cycling garmins in recent rides, especially night rides, I have been well impressed with them so may have to invest in one of those for the trip so would be interested to hear how the garmin goes on this trip, battery life, charging times etc.

Anyway, Good luck on your ride later in the year.

  • Cheers for the well wishes on the ride. We've got our JOGLE full route worked out now, you can check it out here.

  • Just returned from my summer holiday, a Raid Alpine in perfect weather. I've yet to gather my wits, but I reckon that when I do I'll consider it a top trip.

Too many climbs to pick out a favourite, and too many good moments to note without spiralling out of control.

    A+, would ride again.

  • Last year

    I'm Home, 4hrs 35mins.

    Things I learnt:

    -Bring more food
-Training helps (it helped others atleast)
-Stay seated whilst going up hill and over cattle grids (or you too will spin out and fall off)
    -Climbing, I need more practice
    -Descending, I need more practice
-Peter Kennaughs hand felt good on my bum as he pushed me up a small incline as I dropped a gear or two
-Riding past your house with 45k to go sucks, big time
-I know the way to the pain cave (i think I like it)
-Rolla team kit is by far the best looking kit out there

Rode most of the event by my self, people came and went (forwards and backwards) and most were very friendly. A group of about 20 riders went past me on both the outside and the inside, a shout would have helped you fucktards. One of then was lying in a hedge at the bottom of the hill, ambulance on its way, had to wait for 10 mins.

    Thoroughly good fun though.

    4hrs 7 mins.

Pleased, would have liked to get under the 4hrs but alas it wasn't to be. Overall times slightly down as the DoT gritted a 10k section of road yesterday, sketchy but fun.
    25degrees, too hot.

Something to work towards for next year.

    PUB.

  • clintsmoker and I did the northamptonshire leg of the famous Tour De Banbury. the five stage race that due to lack of sponsorship has not ran since 2008. but it is back on this year ls & gs. not one for the faint of heart
