First things first, stick it on auto mode and go and and use it, just to get used to the feel of it and what it gives you in comparison to what you think you see though the viewfinder. Shoot anything and everything (except little kids in the nuddy cos that makes you a nonce).
Once you've had a summer pissing about filling your memcard with a stack of shite and a few good lucky shots, pick up a copy of Floodlight and see about getting on a short evening course to help you get to grips with the finer detail. It may cost more than a DVD off ebay but will be so much better value for money.
