just got this of a mate for £30 needs all new cogs, im thinking about swapping the flat bars for some moustache bars ....
If its that wrecked, chances are its going to be more than just a cassette.
General rule of thumb if a cassette is worn to death then you need a chain, chainrings and go for fresh cables + outers too.
If the front chainrings are actually bent, or appear bent, more likely the bottom bracket has collapsed.
For the lot, probably £60-100 for bogo quality stuff, still makes it a deal too good to be true though. -

i like your charge, looks a load of fun. I want a bike like that but can't justify one.
just a fail on the grips.
I'd definitely keep the grips rather than tape though.

I swapped them and it was a light-bulb moment, I said 'oh yeah' to myself (I had ridden it for about 2 years with them flange in) and the life-affirming realisation that I had posted my retardation up on the internet for all to see
The grips will stay I think, and they will be on the right way round. Anyone got any hairspray?

Finally finished my Bianchi build. Will gradually upgrade most of the parts but it's fine for now. Considering a respray but I growing more attached to how the frame looks now. Managed to find the magic gear which is 18/42, it's a bit spinny but I'll manage.
BTW has anyone used Autoglym SRP or anything similar on a frame? I'm thinking about polishing the frame

For post-stripping or to bring back the colour?
If it's to bring back the colour, I'd go over it hard with t-cut and then wax. It can do wonders.

My winter gears project - frame arrived today so I threw on some wheels etc to see how it looks. Now have to decide whether to buy a new groupset (probably would be Veloce) for it or swap over a 9-speed mixed Campag gruppo from another bike.

pondering gear inches/skid patches. I run 70 gear inches on one bike, and about 75 on the other, but the Stove is way heavier, so I was thinking of running 37/15, giving me 15 skid spots and 66 gear inches. Anyone have experience on riding heavy bikes fixed? Its an unknown for me, should I aim for 60 inches?

• #48765
I go for a 3/4" drop in gear on my polo bike running on 2" tyres. So 69" instead of 72" Feels just about right

Ta, good info, think I'll go for 38T, gives me the same skid spots but 68 gear inches. Those Hookworms are 2.5 and proper heavy with it, gonna be fun finding out how they handle

anyone got ideas about a disc brake bracket adaptor for a front fork?
-
• #48769
By 'bracket adaptor' what do you mean? A bolt on mount for a disc caliper?
-
• #48770
Yeah: the fork has V brake bosses but no mount for discs. I'm toying with the idea of going brakeless, but with the weight of the bike and general idea to ride it offroad I think I need some stopping power. V brakes are ugly, unless I go XTR, and I have a Deore front hydraulic disc brake I can scavenge. I've googled but its not obvious if they are what I'm looking for. I'll ask in the LBSesssses but generally they're against bodging, so I've found, and instead would try to sell me a new front fork, and some extremely expensive 3 pot Hope brake

• #48771
Get some brazed/welded on. I don't know of any mounts for the front
-
• #48772
I was afraid you were going to say that
-
• #48773
Buy a new fork, it will be cheaper than a well engineered conversion and safer than a bodge.
-
• #48774
I was afraid you were going to say that
just run a v-brake or change the fork - any modification involving welding or brazing is going to involve a fair bit of cash changing hands, and at least a partial respray..

This is work in progress and I need your advice. I think it's all getting a bit too blue, or is that OK.
The frame is a blue/white fade across each tube, so it's got more white than shows here.Any other comments appreciated, well it may depend on what they are realy ;-)
Cheers,
I literally slid the grips on about half an hour ago after chopping down the bars, weren't necessarily permanent (I was thinking of black bar tape) however I'm man enough to admit I'm wrong, if I do continue with those grips I'll swap them around
