  • I assume mother hen will be along soon, but you have two pretty close, beginners on Tuesday's is in peckham car park (I think within a couple of miles of Brixton) and souths which is every Wednesday and some weekends, both have threads and the first post in each thread gives location (isn't the first post in this thread the same?)

  • Oh and come along this evening to souths and say hi. Harper road near elephant and castle.

  • You rang?
May have met you in Melbourne?
Beginners / casual polo on Tuesday in Peckham
    http://www.lfgss.com/thread41959-49.html
Not a bad standard at the moment so more 'casual' (I don't know what that means) than beginners.

And Wednesday polo is awesome (as is all the other days but the other side of London)

  • Thanks for letting me join you guys last night... I reckon the newer players could do with a bit more help, maybe play the occasional game where you limit each player to three touches before they have to pass to curb the sandbagging-ball-hogs... ;]
And when you're not on court playing you should be practising a bit of one-on-one down the side...
Good to see so many new people playing (and a few old sandbaggers)... x

  • Was good to have you sensei!

  • Hey all, I'll be visiting London from Chicago, USA Sept. 3-6 and was hoping to make it out to some matches. I'll be staying in the Owgan Close area, (not even sure what all that means). Where and when do games in that area take place?

  • do you know if this is the place???

if yes you need to read the first post of this thread

if that is not the place, you need to ask for a more concrete street name or close landmark

  • Here? South East polo happens every Wednesday, Sat and/or Sunday here.

North East polo is about 25-30 minutes ride from where you are, or you can cheat, i.e. take the overground from New Cross Gate and get off at Haggerstone (Mitch/Downham) or Dalston Junction (Hackney Downs, or just 'Downs' as it is usually called).

  • That is correct. Sorry for not providing more details but I'm not familiar with the UK address system and didn't want to put my friends exact address on the forum without their okay.

But cool, the South London games look like to ones that'll work. Thanks! I'll be getting in on Saturday and the friend I'm staying with isn't getting back into town until that night, so I'll need a way to kill some time and stave off jet lag. Drinking beers and watching some games looks like as good a way as any to accomplish that.

I'll bookmark the thread and check back in closer to the date. (I assume that even though the thread is titled "[Wed] South London Bike etc." that they're now playing on Saturdays occasionally0. Thanks again and maybe I'll see some of you there.

  • Jason, that is correct, South polo also happen some saturdays and some sundays, but as you well say, the bes is to check the thread closer to the date.

  • Jason, you are very welcome at south polo... Bring yourself and a coupla beers, we'll take care of the rest...

  • Hi All

would anybody tell me where can I find places to play in London? Someone told me Peckham and Hackney Downs but dunno days and time.

    Thanks

  • This evening @ 7, floor 5 of Peckham multistorey car park, http://www.lfgss.com/thread41959-53.html has details. Come along next tuesday if you can't make today.

  • There are 3 threads with all the info in them.

Tuesday & Thursdays are North East nights
Casuals/Beginners is also on Tuesday and is further South in Peckham, than standard souths
    Wednesday is Souths

Check the threads on the night to make sure others are in/check location.

  • Is there beginners polo this coming Tuesday? And if so, can bikes be borrowed (as well as mallets)? My bike is totally unsuited - as are those of all my friends...

If anyone could lend / direct me somewhere, I'd be really grateful. Never played before.

    Cheers

  • ^ I am going if there is enough people. Check the thread of beginners / casual throw-in in peckham from the post above yours on Tues day, there will be a list for people to 'sign up'. Bikes,I am pretty sure someone wouldn't mind lending you theirs for a game it two, I am trying to lower my gearing this weekend if it works you are welcome to use mine if the poloaner isn't there.

I have been there twice but it's great fun and great people there!! now tues evenings are my highlight of the week!!

  • What bike you have? I was using my normal 42/16 gearing single speed, not ideal but it was fine. Usinowning own bike has an advantage because you are most used to it!

  • That's great, thanks! i will add my name to the list and come down. I think other friends might want to come too - we were converted by watching the Open on the Downs.

I have a 14 gear '70s touring bike. Drop handle bars. Unsuitable in every way!

  • There is normally a couple of folks that will lend you a bike and mallet

  • It's a good idea to come with some full finger gloves too?

1st time I played: no gloves = hands sore
2nd time : summer gloves = fingers hurt
3rd time : full fingers gloves = much better

    Hey there,
We have a loaner bike you can borrow and I'll bring a spare mallet for you.
Check the thread and make sure there are 6 people on the list before coming along.
    http://www.lfgss.com/thread41959.html
The directions and details are on the first page.

  • Does anybody know where and when they play in Sheffield? I can't find a thread saying it so would be grateful if someone could point me in the right direction :)

  • Every Tuesday night, 6.30/7ish until the lights go out at 9pm.
We play on the courts at Springfield School, which is at the bottom of Victoria Street/Cavendish Street, just behind the West One flats.
