The main point is that the XT were designed as an MTB hubs rather, so while it can handle off road perfectly fine, i'm concern about whether the XT will able to sustain a fully laden touring bike, even though there's rarely a failure rate.
Since the XT were design as an MTB hubs, and managed very well for years on touring bicycle (with service every now and then), then I feel more comfortable having a 'fit and forget' hub that designed for the exact kind of tour I'm doing.
The Great Divide have been on my mind too, another reason for the Thorn, but might go for the Nomad with front suspension though;
