Having a bit of trouble with a new set up, I have a disc brake on the back but a v brake on the front. It doesnt feel like the disc is being gripped hard enough. I loosened off the front v brake a bit so there'd be more pull on the lever after the disc brake engaged, but it still doesnt feel like its being clamped as much as it should be.
I can push the bike backwards with not too much effort even when I have the brake lever pulled all the way.Any advice / top tips for fine tuning it?

what disc brake did you use? are you using a double lever?
-
• #5859
Yeah its a Rik double lever, long pull. The disc is a Shimano Deore RT52.

Did you tighten the disk brake? ;)
-
• #5861
Yes...!
There's a small red wheel on the mounted brake unit for the disc, I've also tried tightening & loosening it, still not gripping it enough...

Is the rotor centred in the caliper?

Nice set Snoops, bring on next season's bikes!

Is the rotor centred in the caliper?
Looks like it is. There's very little space on either side of the disc for the pads to move.

Have you tried cleaning the rotor and pads? Also, inspect the pads for embedded stuff.
There is a disc brake cleaner spray that we use at work, it seems to help and will evaporate off with no residue. -

The cable may be too short, the arm which moves when you pull the lever should be at pretty much full extension when the brake isn't being used. I had problems with my mtb brakes because cable was too short and I was only using the last 50% of the brake arms motion which isn't very effective.
Hopefully that makes sense? Hassan told me the above when I was having problems so maybe ask him for a more detailed/clearer explanation.

does anyone have a pair of these for sale and do they fit the identiti ffx forks?
-
• #5872
There are some (or similar) knocking around in Push...
Cam, what happened to your cracked pompino? can I have a go at tigging it up?
-
• #5873
Just looking and I don't think they'll fit on the ffx forks.
I've still got the cracked pompino. I keep meaning to send it back to them but haven't got around to it. A guy who fixes classic moterbikes down the end of my road said he'd give it a go for £20 - £30 but couldn't be sure if it would hold. I'll keep you posted prav if i don't send it off.

Prav, mine is in the shop, you can use that if you wish.
A couple of days ago I looked through the first few pages of this thread. How things have changed in the space of a few years is incredible.
