Pompetamine frame and P2 fork with the unecessary bits removed, ready for shot blasting and clear coat.
This reminds me... Been meaning to post some pics of my updated pompino. It was starting to look very tatty in it's original brown finish so decided to strip it back to bare metal followed by a linseed oil treatment which seems to be doing a good job of preventing rust thus far.

I have had truly excellent bare steel results by keeping a can of highly refined petroleum distillates around. You can just respray the entire bike as needed. maybe takes 30 seconds once a week.
i just looked for what i was using, and came across this. seems even better.

you just need to re apply.
the key in all these things is to have the protective agent be the LEAST viscous it can be. Hence the use of highly refined dislillates. It needs to get into the pores of the metal and displace the water. Counter intuitive at first.
reapplication is always needed.

@ Half Man Half Gibbon, get a Can Creek 200TT stuck in there. I've got one on mine and it works a treat. I've got one left over if you want it.

Hence the discussion of which lever to go for....zzzz
-
• #48537
any lever that works - don't ride brakeless until you figure it out- go to a bike shop and fit something that stops your bike quickly and safely!
apologies though- pet hate of mine- it's an age old argument and not worth having on here for umpteenth time... carry on!
-
• #48538
I don't understand brakeless. Even when I was riding to/from the track I used a front brake - only takes 2min to put on

actually yes.
basically.but not smelly.
slightly different in some way i don't know.
it does have to dry outside for a few.
but you can glob as much on the frame as you like. It's doesn't "run" or "dry" or anything.

[QUOTE=Mr.C;2294271]just finished this
Hercules track bike. It is either from 58 or 65 not sure. Quite light and completely original. Airlite hubs, campa pista cranks, milremo stem and bars. SR seatpost and pedals (these must have been updated in the 80/s). 531 tubing
amazingly tight clearances for its age i think
Let's just go back to this one for a second, very, very nice...

Yes, this has already been posted there.
This has been a major influence on my Pompetamine build.
Also now golgols has propperly convinced me I've gone the right route with the clear coat.
