I rather liked the food at both but was unable to attend the toff-baiting last night. I've eaten at both the Rose and the Raven and was impressed with both. The risotto at the raven was as it should be - smooth and silky in consistency (and also because I find risotto a bit of a challenge to cook at the best of times) and the eggs benedict at the Rose last week made for a rather pleasant lunch.
As L&W said a page or so ago the music spat out by the randomising jukebox at the Rose has all the tracks to keep people from metal fans to McCarthy happy and both senior representatives seemed eager for the business and I reckon there was serious potential for a "(tofu) pie and a pint" type of deal.
I reckon that an evening spent in the company of the Harley boys would be a scream, but I also rather liked the charm of the Raven. Both seem to fit the bill (despite Ed Maschler's apparent thumbs down for the burger) so I guess it's just a matter of who does us the best deal.
