just finished this
Hercules track bike. It is either from 58 or 65 not sure. Quite light and completely original. Airlite hubs, campa pista cranks, milremo stem and bars. SR seatpost and pedals (these must have been updated in the 80/s). 531 tubing
amazingly tight clearances for its age i think
Amazing. Another nice one. Can we see some more pictures, please?

Those Sogreni bells (in brass) have a nice tone, but they're self-ringing, clapper is too close to the disc.
Nice colour on the frame; fresco!

Pompetamine build is coming along nicely but I don't know what chainset to go for. Looking for square taper I think so I can be sure I can get a 53mm chainline, 130bcd pref cold forged and got to be polished/silver. Any suggestions other than Messengers?

just experimenting different wheels
I like the "vintage" look that the bike gets with this one
the idea is to set the bike with a rear wheel just like the front one.
Wich wheel do you all prefer to see?if i will decide to set the bike with some of this wheels i'll probably change the crankset

I quite like he tan walls, looks a bit more classic. Not a fan of the white saddle. If you do go with the tan walls then the chainring might look out of place
Black saddle and rims would also look nice

i prefer the black ones to be honest... maybe with white tape and a classic chainset you could rock the silver/tan wall set up...
but noca, just ride it! i wish i had your motivation to always change parts.... I'm way too lazy, if it works, i ride it, till it breaks, then I reconsider....

i ride her everydays ;)
Today i was trying to organize my garage and than i started to change wheels... lol!
Yeah, maybe you're right about it ;)
I had "her" with black wheels and a black flite saddle. I had to use the flite in other bike and that made me set this white one. This is not motivation but a VIRUS (lol!).thanks!

I agree with oz that the classic wheels look super nice, but if I was riding this beaut on the street I'd want stiff wheels. So the deeper rims/large flange.
...unless you can rack up the tension of the classics.

I have those wheels, but in silver, i think they were great value
i also have the same frame with the orange/red rainbow fade thing, but the grey bits are white on mine
good stuff :)Cool so there decent then. Whay kinda crank and chain do you have? Its just i wanna build a fixie using a peugeot frame and havent a clue what crank to buy or chain. I no i want 18t on the wheels and 48t on crank.

i like the tan walls too, for what it's worth.
...got me thinking about the whole high flange vs low flange, box vs v, road or track etc. covered here: http://www.lfgss.com/thread10903-3.html -

An over due project update.
The pompetamine is finished (ish, could do rebuilding the front wheel).
It's lovely to ride, rolls smoothly, can carry shitloads of stuff. Also the rear disc mount is handy for a coaster brake
I've got quite chunky tires on it (42's) and is making me happy carrying the little one at the mo.For when she gets too big, this will hopefully be finished. Haven't done anything on it for ages (neglected :( ) but it is useable at least.
I need to sort out the left handle bar, the right has been mounted ok. I've used some pipe mounting blocks (thanks to some good googling by the tester, or he literally knows everything) that need to be placed clamping the bars and the metal box frame. This requires a hole in frame. The right has been done,
quite bably, using a drill and some files - I really need a bigger shed. In comparison the left hasn't been done and wobbles loads
The handle bar set up is nice though, it is good being able to control the sweep. Also rik's double lever works a treat, took a while to get the brakes working well without any turning.
Someday it'll all be finished with seats and all, someday.......

I have sugino supermaxy cranks 144BCD with a 47T chainring
looks a bit like this, but i think the BCD is different http://bmxmuseum.com/forsale/5980
I paid about £20 for mine off ebay, I personally wouldn't spend too much on really new modern looking cranks. They may not fit the look of the frame, and some would consider it a waste of money if youre putting them on an old peugot frame, but its up to you.
My chainring was 3/32 off the forum for £3 so i had to get 3/32 chain and sprocket to match. The Izumi track chains are really good value, and 3/32 thickness is better if your chainline is a little out. Most singlespeed specific cranks generally use 1/8, but ive had no problems having to use 3/32.

48/18 is a pretty good ratio as a 'ride anything gear' IMOi would advise shopping around for parts that fit the look of your frame, good luck

This is my project so far, just (almost finished), still need to cut down the steerer tube, i dont think the blue mavic will stay on the front, and am contemplating a front brake and which one/style to go for, as well as possible brown leather bar tape also.
My first fixed/single speed build:

Think it looks good... if it's your first fixed then yeah a brakes definitely a good idea, not sure what kind of brake lever on thos bars, maybe traditional drop bar lever? or a bar end lever.

Thanks, yeah thats my issue, i love the shape of the bars, but im not sure what lever they lend themselves well too.
Im getting the hang of riding without a traditional brake, though its a little un nerving at first.
Heres another shot or two:
grrrrrr!!
