  • Just curious, I've been looking at Rapha's casual range for daily commute clothing and also considering going into Lycra+Cycling jersey then change at work. Do you guys wear something specific when commuting.

  • How long is your commute? What bike you riding? 5 miles+ and fixed, I would suggest looking at some sports tech type stuff. It's VERY cheap at sports direct. As in £8 a jersey. £8 for padded shorts. They do keep you cooler and more comfortable if you're looking at anything over small distances...

  • There's a whole thread about Rapha. I believe the concensus is that it is good, but too dear. If you have the money, go for it, I guess.

  • I like to wear my very best hipster clothing for cycling... Just to add so authenticity to the get up

  • Skinny jeans, wife beater, espadrilles, handlebar tache?

  • Just throw on whatever is knocking about. A friend snapped a pic of me on my way home yesterday evening:

  • Bibs. Swrve jeans. Grotty old T shirt or cycling jersey.
    That's for 15miles each way.

Although I might wear some mountain bike shorts if it's raining, quick drying innit.

  • i wear these.

  • and nothing else.

  • I used to do a 15 mile each way commute wearing an old t-shirt & lycra shorts. Now I just wear a mankini or leaderhoisen.

  • nothing

    al fresco ftw

  • although the receptionist does give me a funny look thought when i arrive

  • Don't look at the pictures - quality and comfort much better than expected, smart look for the office

T-shirts (again, ignore the pictures) - comfy, very fast drying, good stretch, lush feel, good fit with longer back, don't fade/wash out, smart appearance, very happy with it

Trousers - good on the bike, good in the office, don't get dirty much, shower repelent

  • bibs (short or long depending on the season), boardshorts or MTB shorts over top (no one wants to see your junk), jersey or synthetic T, Hi-Vis gillet/jacket.

  • the skins of my vanquished enemies and a necklace of thier ears.

  • I wear my jeans and t shirt, which I hope to be in all day. Set off at a steady pace on my beater trying not to get sweaty. Get caught in one of many little cycling moments. Give it the beans. Gain momentum and arrive at work pissing with sweat. Feel a bit manky but glad all morning.

  • 10 mile commute. Used to wear jeans, but sweaty crotches aren't cool. Now wear lycra shorts. T-shirt or western shirt on top. Change into jeans at work.

  • I've worn some Outlier trousers for the last 4 or 5 months - the stretchy ones that are kinda formal looking. Still going strong and very comfortable.

  • jeans or shorts, trainers and a normal T´shirt, and another T-shirt to change into once I have cold down a bit.
    normal clothes

  • depends on the temperature - 7.5 mile journey with toilet changing facilities at the other end.

    18C+
Paramo 3/4 Parameta 'A' shorts. excellently breathable.
    ShuttVR full sleeve jersey.

    12-17C
    Linen trousers,
http://www.freshmaxshirts.com/ shirt. or the jersey at the upper end of this.

    5-12C
    Rohan Fusion trousers
    http://www.freshmaxshirts.com/ shirt.

    add on top of that
ShuttVR Winter jacket down to -5C ish.

pretty much unless it's warm, I fold up the B, enter reception and go right to the office. B under desk = sorted.

http://www.freshmaxshirts.com/ - rather good shirts, just finished a 6 month test of one. I like.

  • can anyone suggest a good cycling clothes shop in east or north london?

  • I usually wear shorts and old t-shirt on my commute, the occasional skirt and tights combo but usually very much rocking the homeless courier look generally.

Could be arsed to get changed after work yesterday and cycled home in the dress I was wearing and it was a proper revelation! Frocks are the ace-est thing to cycle in for starters, really comfortable to move in and taxi drivers, white van man etc seemed less keen on killing me. Which was nice.

rapha's casual stuff is pretty good for commuting. been using their paul smith trousers, fixed shorts and various baselayers as tshirts/shirts etc. lasts ages too so the initial price is mitigated by longevity.
depends how long your commute is though.
i have 7 pretty quick miles each way and no amount of the overpriced but nice bike-ponce kit i like is going to get me out of the need for a shower and a change of clothes. especially after you have a backpack on.

What's the fit? Do they have a tailored look or I'm going to look in it like a car park attendant?
