Cricket helmets break playing cricket. If a batting player is on the hard end of a fast ball, the helmet just cracks. Saw it happen during one of the one day matches recently.
Josh took a huge mallet strike across the face at the UK Champs. I have relatively little doubt that if he had an open grill or one that was attached slightly wrongly then he would need a new face.
Sure a hockey helmet is hot and heavy but it was made to deal with the abuse it will be getting. The vision thing is something you get used to. Pucks move a lot faster than polo balls.
