Strange happenings with rear hubs seem pretty common on Mavics. But there are so many of them on the road, perhaps that's unfair.
No, the FTS-L freehub design is actually shit, if you want something which can go for years of all weather riding without maintenance. As long as you do the remove/clean/lube routine at intervals appropriate to your riding conditions they are OK, but if you leave them until they squeak they tend to eat the hub shell rather than anything easily replaced.
