Ignore some of the US specific content (natch) - but the whole blog is really good and you may find some of this stuff useful in your search.

  • it's never too late to start a new career.

  • I have Sram Apex on my cross bike, which has a long cage rear mech.

If I wanted to upgrade the mech, there are zero options within the road range as higher than Apex you only have short cage mechs.

So- would a Sram MTB mech work with my shifters?

  • @EEI - elligible for a gamsat? A friend is doing one this year after starting out in law. Some hard graft later and he's headed in a completely different direction - similar age too..

  • Give somewhere in the middle.

Either change the cassette to a 28t max for use with a road mech or ask somebody who knows what they are talking about - I think SRAM 10s MTB mechs work with road shifters, but don't take my word for it. Older 9s speed ones definitely don't. Or just accept that you already have a perfectly decent groupset and ride the shit out of it instead of constantly trying to upgrade your bikes.

  • It's for future reference really, the bike is getting ridden every day and is giving great service.

The CX bike is great, very versatile and feels like it can tackle anything that might be thrown at it.

  • i'm pretty sure the 10's do, i was in my friends bike shop the other day and i was putting an x9 one on a guys bike that had full apex. but really i'd just do what tester said

  • Most schools accept mature grads, and a significant proportion at that. However, they seem to go for people that are in a related field (nursing, paramedic, some sort of health work etc...).

    "Freelance pharmacist" count?

  • this has been bugging me for years: why do we clean our teeth with cold water?

    It's cheaper than hot water.

  • Where can I get a cheap cheap cheap 15mm or 16mm cone spanner??

Oh it has to be cheap btw

  • ...but will leave my rims conditioned and smelling simply ravishing.

Ooh, I'll ravish your rim for you.

I need to bring over all my paperwork first (next month), translate the shit and look into it. My equivalent of A-levels was in Literature, History, Maths, Physics and Language. And then a degree in Film Studies.
I'm just wondering about my prospects, as I'd like to study something - don't want to waste my life.

I looked into it a while back - best bet is to talk to mature med students, and talk to admissions departments.

Or just set up an Alt Med doctor with a PhD from a non-accredited school.

    Ask Damo for the details.

I've got bad back and dodgy knee. That's all. Know some Latin, though.

Email from my dad earlier today- what does it say?

"Imago bufonis domi bufonis vehementer excellens sed, filius, cave carros
    telespectatorum Gallorum, ita vero, io!"

  • Send him this back:

    Percidere, puer, moneo; futuere, puella;
barbatum furem tertia poena manet. Femina si furtum faciet mihi virve puerve,
haec cunnum, caput hic praebeat, ille nates. Per medios ibit pueros mediasque puellas
mentula, barbatis non nisi summa petet.

  • Half of those words are in English.

  • I like Rob's more. My kinda Latin.

  • Filth?

  • Dammit's dad will be well impressed with it. It's the DJ formula for dealing with errant drivers

  • I know what it says, I'm not sending that as a response- it makes no sense!

  • But it involves ladyboys. Everybody loves ladyboys.

  • Is that why you want to go into medecine, to make your own?
