Swiss Stop greens. Work great in all weather and don't leave black crud on your rim.
The OP said not too expensive. So this ^ is a bit of a fail. They're montrously expensive. But like rab says, they're great, I got em on my tourer on Avid shortys. I particularly like the wedge shaped washers that let you toe them in nicely. Which ever blocks you use, sshopeful, make sure you can angle them.

I stick any pads that are ruduced in my lbs on. usually bmx ones cos they're cheap and colourful, although they don't last long. I have cheap brakes too...but i pride myself on being able to get any brake pad to fit them (except disc pads maybe). x
currently diacompe single pivot BRS400 or something and some soft cool stop red pads. -

Yeah Kool stops are Kool. I have some grey ones that are really good, and dirt cheap.

Kool Stops are great, I'd recommend them...

Amazingly there are different pads for different purposes and different braking surfaces
as with so many things you get what you pay for
it's make loving difficult to work this out - so I have said it for you

I've been running on these all winter and now into the spring.
Can't fault them in the dry and they hold their own in the wet.
Great value £3.14http://www.probikekit.com/display.php?code=A0064
High quality budget brake pad set. These brake pads feature a single unified moulding and come complete with all mounting hardware.
[]1 pair rubber brake blocks with moulded wheel guides.
[]Chrome fixing bolts.
[*]Weight 48g per pair including all fittings. My stopping power is shocking in the wet, I'm hoping it's the brake pads.
Might try these and they're only £1.57 at the moment.
Or is this a false economy? -

Whilst you're at it, buy a decent brake cable too. DA is very good IMO.

I use Salmon Kool Stops which seem to work pretty well in the wet, think they're about £6 on wiggle.

Just reinvested in some green swiss stops - after mine have finally worn out after a year.
Reen recommended them to me and they are brilliant- actually it was in this thread http://www.lfgss.com/thread2523.html
expensive but Excellent stopping in the wet, and long lasting so I don't mind. -

Brake, cable and pad all make a difference to stopping power, although standard Shimano pads are generally awful in the wet compared to their dry performance (having said that, DA 7900s are supposed to be better now).
Modern dual-pivot brake(s) is the most important thing (assuming you need caliper type brakes) - after that, Swissstop green FTW in the wet. Kool Stop salmons on a budget.

Hmm, just read the thread clefty linked to. All a bit redundant, sorry.

Maybe its time for mergatron?

I've been testing out the budget of budget brake pads the PBK I have been using worked great in the dry but i've been finding in the wet they aren't holding their own any more.
I've now changed them for some even cheaper ones at £3 will post a review

Can anyone recommend some good v-brake replacement pads? equivalent to swiss-stop green?
I've been looking at the swiss-stop v-brake ones but have read a few reports that they don't last long, and at that price I would rather they lasted. -

Clarkes big standard. Tried them all, fick all difference if your fingers work, especially in the wet. And super-dooper gravel grip pads are great, but new rims/wheels are expensive.

Ate my new xtr's in one ride, now loving my Koolstops - just like back in the day!

so just bought these campagnolo strada hardox http://www.lfgss.com/thread60349.html and deciding which brake pads to get.
Decided on swissstop from recommendations but slightly confused...
the manufacturer's website says the blue pads are for ceramic only, whilst most distributors are saying the greens are for alloy or ceramic... which one should I be getting? anyone have any experience of this conflab? most people here are saying green but blue sounds like the one....
or should I just go for Kool Stop greens?
dahelp?!
-
• #124
I think a lot of people ended up using greens because the blues are only available for V brakes, rather than because they are specifically intended for ceramics (and you'd have to assume the manufacturer's website was correct, right?). Having said that, it's rare to find anyone with a bad word to say about them so I'd assume they'll be more than capable.
I have greens on all my bikes (non ceramic though!)...

not that I brake a lot using my brake pads... but was thinking of getting some bmx brake pads to match my bike... probably not amazing but does anyone know if buying these would be a terrible idea?
At present I get slight black stains on my green deep V rims from using my front brake... would this solve the problem?
Its all about fibrax - they wear quickly, but they're good and really cheap.
