I read that anything more than 2 cure and then a final 3rd doesn't actually increase the ability to stick. it plateaus after that.
also...for road riding you don't need nearly as much glue as for cross. with the recent rise in popularity of cross a lot of the tubular tire glueing suggestions have been geared towards that (i.e. tape and glue)

FFS, go to these Alps already, Neil!

• #14104
I concur with Little Tony - two or three layers of glue at most, anything else is overkill.

does herne hill have bikes that people can use on just a day trip. Likely won't be able to commit to a whole season and can't bring a track bike from canada. can only afford to bring one, and it's a geared one.
edit: I am tiny and need around a 50 top tube (my bike here is on 650's)...if that matters

They have a fleet of hire bikes, in all sizes (including bikes for kids that would definitely fit you).

I've not got the wheels yet!

Bah, glue it is.

fantastic. my UCI license in canada works in the UK correct?
-
• #14110
For UCI events, yes...
-
• #14111
how many events at herne hill are UCI?
-
• #14112
Err, none I think. You don't need a license for training and most of the racing, in fact the only thing I think you need a license for is derny training on a Thursday?
-
• #14113
even for a day racing license?
so confusing. I guess it doesn't really matter anyway, I will likely only be able to get to the last two races in the autumn series, if that, for this year.

Does anyone have any travel advice for Greece?
I have to go for a long weekend in Sept and the amount it's costing I may as well turn it into a week trip.
I'll be on my own, so ideally would like to go somewhere you can meet other young people in a chilled out vibe. Altho I'm thinking more along the lines of Euro/antipodeans rather than hideous English people.
But on the flipside there also needs to be some stuff I can do by myself.
Also the cheaper the better.

Has anyone ever wanted to build a beautiful bike but just sacked it off and got something off the peg because building bikes is slow, stressful, expensive and boring?

I lived there for a while, and I'd recommend going straight from the airport to Pireus, then to the islands.
Andros, Naxos, Paros and Andiparos were the ones I spent most time on.
Don't go to Ios unless you like lager and fighting, Mykenos is the other main "party island", I didn't go there however.

That is perfectly normal behaviour. Not sure if that's discouraging.

in many ways if you can find a bike that fits the OTP route is a good idea and generally much cheaper, you can then slowly acquire the bling you wish for and upgrade over time. bang for buck they are very good value, especially when you buy last years colour in a sale.
however the sense of satisfaction once you have endured the wait, the fretting as to which part (what spec, will it fit, will it work) and paid more than you could probably afford is amazing. I have never found bike building - including sourcing parts boring, but it can be frustrating and agonising.
having said that I have 2 near perfect bikes for me, and eventually the MTB will achieve that status. the joy of feeling like the kid that got the best present has not gone when riding the bikes is worth it. learning how to put the bikes together has also been a useful and generally fun experience

Once you build what you wanted there's nothing left to look forward. Your life becomes pointless and you end up buying a rope from Homebase.

• #14123
are you into bondage EEI?

• #14124
Don't be silly. I've got panic attack when tightening the string in my Speedos.
