  • i don't think it will ever have much flavour ut when i use it in pasta sauce, i just rehydrate it first and then add it to the sauce as the excess water is boiling off

  • Dave Zabriskie's gone vegan:

Goodbye Meat, dairy and anything that comes from an animal.

    Nice one.

  • That will be the last time he wins a race then

  • Just you wait. :) Plenty of top athletes have been vegan (not necessarily ethically, but nutritionally) and have had very good results. One example is Carl Lewis:

    http://www.earthsave.org/lifestyle/carllewis.htm

OK, so he was also a doper, but that was par for the course in those days. I don't know if he is still vegan, but it is a myth that athletes need to eat animal products to be competitive.

  • Will Dave be racing without tyres then?

  • I've been vegan for years ! Won many races, and I've been described as 'unaturally' strong ! I know many vegan athletes, and we all consider its an advantage. I'd never go back to eating animal products.

And I'd add, I'm never ill. Not so much as a sniffle.

  • Except that's he's not - an article yesterday quoted him 'cheating' weekly with salmon.

  • Except that's he's not - an article yesterday quoted him 'cheating' weekly with salmon.

Yup. Thats really sad ! He has lost his vegan credibility.

  • Cheating with Alex Salmon?

  • If you cheat with a non-vegan, and imbibe bodily fluids, you loose your vegan credibility. Big time !

  • Except that's he's not - an article yesterday quoted him 'cheating' weekly with salmon.

Oh dear. Shame. Do you have a link to the article?

But it always reminds you that 'being vegan' is an unhelpful phrase in some ways, always suggesting to people that veganism is a high plateau to reach when in fact it's a fairly long process to become 'fully' vegan, and while at the time of typing I'm a full nutritional vegan, there are still areas, e.g. in buying cosmetics, where I'm not fully vegan. So, let's hope that Dave becomes more consistent, if he wants to.

Like Oliver said, it's all a step in the right direction. Nice one Mr Z...shall follow his TdF progress with additional interest now.

  • Cheating with Alex Salmon?

    Or Fred Salmon?

  • Hang on. That 'vegan cyclist' - he's eating fish, so neither a vegan, nor a vegetarian

That headline should read 'Man competes in bike race'

  • It's ok to eat fish coz they don't have any feelings

  • Apart from the fish (which totally defeats the object of the thing) I say fair play to him just on the basis of eating hemp shakes. They are fuc*ing disgusting (but brilliant) I have about 40ish g of the stuff each morning and it's hard work.

Still it's vegan and it's made by nice people - BikeFood- so you can forget the taste/texture.

  • Is that their hemp protein powder? I take it you mix with something else?

  • You should never ride salmon, they say.

Today in the news also that F1 will be driven with 1.6 liter motors like my Citroen.
The fuel issue of major vehicle sports events that's the issue of today.

So you're a vegan yet you force yourself to eat that shit every morning? Why??

  • I have about 40ish g of the stuff each morning and it's hard work.

    40g of hemp?

    You're doing it wrong.

  • A draw of hemp is what you need all day long.
