I actually have 3 (THREE!) invites all to lfgss.com or buro9.com accounts... none of which work because those are Google App accounts and without a profile I can't finish the bloody signup.

Click "Share" in the top right corner and paste the e-mail address into the recipients bit (where it says + circle or whatever), add message and confirm "Share". Done.
Also sharing albums or pictures works - I've just done it to my former college mates.
Going through your gmail's address book works to when you create circles.

I haven't been able to get in yet... now up to 5 invites (and shares) over 4 email accounts... but no matter how much I click "Join Google+"... it just takes me to the "Coming Soon" page.
