Mine has NO drillings and i have never run brakes on any of my Fixed gear rides. I now have a fixie porteur bike with a child seat on the back, so for the first time i have a brake and am loving it!
Would never run them otherwise, but as with a helmet if it helps you to ride a bike without twitching in a heap on the road then go for it.
