Yes.
I guessed it was something to do with the building process, but had no idea what.
Thanks a lot.
So is this Ti specific, or is it done with steal and alu too?

i fancy these....
http://www.v-sprint.com/pages/track-wheels.html
im a wee bit of a noob. i consist of 13 stone of beer , cake and sweat. i want to put 28c's on them and like to jump curbs and speed bumps .
are these purely track wheels , or are they gonna take some abuse ?

You'd be better off building some Velocity Chukkers or similar; much more expensive in the first instance, but not so much after you've trashed a couple of pairs of lightweight racing wheels by using them for something for which they're not designed.
-
• #13911
I'd not call them lightweight racing wheels.
They are solidly handbuilt wheels by Varno off this very forum, and tough as old boots.I've got some with the Weinmann Pegasus 40mm rims and Novatec hubs and they are great. I'm 15 stone of pure power/pies and have no problems with them. DP18s are also decent rims.
If you only mean jumping curbs and speedbumps they should be ok, but if you want to ride down flights of steps and land big jumps then MDCC's right - go for something heavy and tough.

Not questioning the quality of either the components or the build, but skinny 32 spoke wheels will never be as strong as a proper heavy duty build, and 28c tyres on DP18s is at the edge of what's acceptable regardless of what Sheldon Brown says. Your results will vary hugely based not only on your weight and the height of the kerbs, but even more on how much skill you have - 130lb road racing whippets can smash wheels if they land sideways.

Blackheath westcombe is a good bet, theres a range of houses from the multi million pounders to blocks of flats, there aren't many/any council estates an the only people I can recall dying were people getting hit by cars on the A2.
I lived/ grew up there for 15 years...

Im running 35c on my dp18s no problem, although I am approximately half a person, so that might have something to do with it.

I'm running 35c on 38mm wide Kris Holm rims, and it's a million times better than big tyres on 19mm rims. Go up a size on the rims and down a size on the tyres, you get the same weight and superior performance.

any advice
If you're on a tight budget, the Rigida Grizzly SE is actually a couple of quid cheaper than DP18s, and much better suited to 28C tyres. The rims are popular with the kind of people who ride unmade roads with full camping gear strapped to the bike. Get them built up with 36 spokes on the same Novatec hubs (sold under many other names, SJSC stock them in 36h) that Varno uses and you'll have a solid set of wheels. If you really want to go nuts, you can buy DT Alpine III spokes for the same price as Comps.

As a council estate dweller (my wife's the tenant; they won't grant me tenancy despite being here nearly 20 years), can I just say a quick 'fuck you' to everyone casually describing how areas are tainted by estates. Thanks.

Is there a lock holster available that you can attach to your belt without undoing it / threading it through? Velcro or something? I used a Fabric Horse for about a week but found it annoying when off the bike.

thing is , im a noob . id be really into the idea of using my old wheels (when i get some new ones) to learn how to build wheels myself. strip em down and build em up again. that way , id not be at risk of making a balls up , attempting to build up a brand spanking new wheelset myself. as im pretty good at thinking , just one more turn on that spanner and then hearing a loud sharp pinging noise.
would those halo wheelsts be any good be any good ?

Search this site for "Wheel Building", there are various options for getting people here to do your wheels, including letting you watch and learn.

It's not the estates themselves. It's some of the dwellers.
I'm on a HA estate - all nice, most people are in employment and proud of the neighbourhood. And then there are some cunts rehoused there from a demolished tower block. You can tell by the front yards with discarded sofas, old suitcases and tins of Tennant's. People who shout in the middle of the night, who ride scooters back and forth all day and night without going anywhere, people who throw out takeaway boxes through their windows, who's children stab other kids. Fuck 'em all.
The clear pipes are pumping an inert gas through the frame to ensure the titanium welds properly.
Is that what you were asking about?
