Without wishing to sound like Mother Theresa's nephew once a month (or when time allows) I go along to an advertising college to crit student's work and offer advice for a day. I don't get paid for this but I do get a great sense of professional satisfaction. It's just a community/industry thing, which is one of the things I always liked about this place - the sense of community.
Unfortunately you are starting to sound more and more like Mother Theresa's nephew with every post.
Tell me this. Are these students asking you to crit work of the quality you would expect from a 12 year old and then hoping to sell this work on and make money from it? My guess is that they are probably coming out with some half decent work and that as they are students and still in education, they are not yet tring to make their living from it.
From what I understand his bikes are getting better yet, some on here are not willing to forgive him his earlier mistakes, I find this attitude puerile which is what I was trying to reflect in my post.
Better, yes. Good, no! Well not yet anyway. Foffa really needs to up his game as he will not be heaped with praise and orders purely for being the underdog. People are not slagging his designs off because of his past, it's cos his designs, like the low pro he posted a few days ago and the hi pro or whatever it is are not very good.

You're missing the very simple point. Which is that if you have skills in a particular area, why not be generous and pass your knowledge on. There are people on this thread who have knowledge to pass on to make DF's product better, the same product they slag off, yet they choose not to help improve it. OK, their choice. If DF is expecting to get such help for free (as a business) then yes he's nuts, but I don't recall him ever having said that. I'd imagine (or hope) that if someone with the right credentials approached him they could work something out between themselves.
The problem with your arguments and plenty of those of others is that they assume too much without really knowing the facts. For example, what DF has in mind in terms of recompense should someone really help him out with a killer design. I don't know any of this either but instead of automatically assuming the negative as you are, I'm hoping for the reasonable and the positive from someone who has shown that they want to listen.

Sorry mate but you are missing the very simple point that Dani Foffa has clearly not yet employed anyone to help him with his designs and because he hasn't got a clue himself they are rubbish and people are slating them. I'm sure if Dani made some sort of an effort to produce something good, people would be happy to give him a chance and maybe a few tips to help perfect his designs. Untill then, please stop defending him as he clearly can't even be bothered to come back on here and stick up for himself.

So, you know for a fact that DF has not consulted anyone with any knowledge about bike design? As for him not coming on here and defending himself (again) perhaps he's busy trying to run his business, if you've ever tried to run your own business you'll know how time consuming it is.

You only have to look at towny hi pro and webby lo pro to know that he hasn't consulted anyone with any knowledge about anything.
There's numerous ways Danni could have attracted budding designers to work for him and monetary payment is only one of those ways. So far he has offered no incentive.

You're missing the point. He runs a business, not an anarcho-syndicalist co-op manufacturing free bikes for Africa.

The hi-pro bike a number of people have already said they quite like the look of, others don't, this is perfectly normal - I happen to think that pretty much everything Charge make is a bit pants but lots of people are very happy with their plugs etc. The webby lo-pro bike has webbing that would probably add about 500lbs to the weight of the frame if it were literally made as per the sketch.
However, it's a concept bike and one thing I am used to seeing is concept sketches/designs. And the difference between those and the finished article is often vast. It was brave of DF to post that pic on here but possibly also a bit daft, considering how many negative posters/people there are here.
I take it then that you've spoken with him and know he's not been in contact with any designers or not had anyone looking into the design elements of projects with him? And you also know from speaking with him that he's not offered anyone any incentive to help with the design side of things? I probably shouldn't be asking as from your posts you obviously know the guy quite well.

You and about one other person like the hi pro. Everyone else thinks it is rubbish. I don't see it being a big seller. If I were Dani I'd think again before putting that into production.
Concepts are meant to be beautifull if not always practical for production. Web pro would be a fail there then.
If you look at the Foffa website there is a list of all the people involved, with photos and none of them are listed as designers. There is a Creative Cconsultant whatever the fuck that is but my guess is that Dani comes up with these concepts himself.

The lo-pro is terrible, but that's merely because all lo-pros are.

@ Chris Borneo. I think you are missing a very basic, fundamental point, which is that we live in a CAPITALIST society. Therefore the MARKET determines the value of goods if Mr Foffa puts a bike into production and enough people are willing to buy that bike at the asking price it is worth the asking price, how else do you think that Tracey Emmin can sell a shit in the middle of a bed sheet for twelfty Fortas? Because people are willing to pay.
The number of people who cycle is growing every day and not everyone is looking for the same thing in a bike as you. This guy is trying to make a living out of a boyant market, good on him, he is making reasonable products that the Market has determined are priced fairly, what is the problem? Do you honestly think that you or this forum are the sole arbiter of good cycling taste?

And vice versa.

No, but we are part of the system of information dissemination which allows consumers to make better decisions. A Foffa might seem fairly priced to a cycling noob, because he has too little information. Obviously, this market segment can be profitable in the short term for somebody who has no interest in repeat business, but the interests of sellers who exploit poorly informed buyers are not those of this community, one of whose purposes is to enable consumers to obtain maximal value by sharing information about good products and good offers.
To suggest that Foffa's pricing is 'fair' just because he is making some sales is also missing the point somewhat if you believe in free markets. The question should be, what would be the selling price of a Foffa if all buyers had perfect market information? To be fair, the Prima frame pricing seems to be in the ball park, but the OTP pricing can only be sustained as long as punters fail to recognise the true value of the rest of the components when sold as a package. That's only partly Foffa's fault, he's trying to make a profit without having the OEM buying power of Giant (or even Planet-X/On-One), but knowing this, he might be chasing the wrong market segment if he's planning to be in the bike business for the long haul.
