I take that back the character names are not the same. So perhaps it is more prequel than re-make. Maybe even the events at the Norwegian camp, we'll know more in october.
@MacReady - Is your username based on Russell's character in 'The Thing' took me a moment to notice the spelling. Or just coincidence?
